Advanced Physics Courses
AP Physics 1 is an algebra-based, introductory college-level physics course. Students study physics through classroom study, in-class activity, and hands-on, inquiry-based laboratory work. Topics covered include Motion, Forces, Energy and its conservation, Gravitation, Momentum and waves. This class is the equivalent of General Physics 1 in college. If you are considering a career in the sciences such as Medicine or Engineering, then this is the course to take. Because it is an AP course, you can earn an additional 8 AP points to your final yearly average. AP Physics 2 is an algebra-based continuation to AP Physics 1. Students study the fundamentals of electricity and magnetism, fluids, optics and thermodynamics. Because it is an AP course, you can earn an additional 8 AP points to your final yearly average. Pre-requisite courses: Should have successfully completed AP Physics 1 or comparable physics course and should have taken or be taking concurrently Pre-calculus or an equivalent math course. AP Physics C is a calculus based Physics course that covers many of the same topics found in AP1 and AP2 in a more in depth calculus based approach. Students considering careers in Engineering can truly benefit from this course. AP Physics C is offered as two independent semester AP courses, with each course earning 8 additional points to your final average. (Students earn 2 full credits by the end of the school year- 1 full credit per semester) Pre-requisite courses: AP Physics 1 or comparable course; should have taken or be concurrently taking Calculus.

Aquatic Science
This is a fun class mainly for 11th and 12th graders. Most of the work is done in class and there is no specific “homework”. The first semester is spent talking about Texas fresh water. The second semester we will be learning about many of the animals in the ocean and their habitats and interactions.
Prerequisite: Biology (Chemistry is suggested) Open to students in grades 11-12
Astronomy
Learn about:
Explore: NASA curriculum, Citizen Science Projects, Interact with telescopes from around the world and learn to process images from space, Guest speakers from JPL, UTSA, SETI, and more Pre-requisites: Biology Open to students in grades 11-12

Medical Microbiology
Medical Microbiology is designed for students who are interested in the microbial world, studying topics such as pathogenic and non-pathogenic microorganisms, learning about laboratory procedures, identifying drug resistant organisms and emerging diseases such as Zika and COVID-19. This class includes a lot of labs where we culture bacteria, phage, and fungi. You will learn how to culture a petri dish, slant tube, autoclave equipment to make it sterile, etc. If you are considering a career in any of the Health Sciences, this is one of the classes to take! This class is one of the classes in the Health Science Endorsement.
Prerequisite: Biology and Chemistry Open to students in grades 11-12
